Kid birthdays

My husband's Goddaughter and her brother had their combined birthday party yesterday and I made their cakes. Each had their own theme. Alyssa's was elephant themed and Jacob's was train themed. The elephant cake is made of yellow cake with a chocolate ganache filling. The train cake is made of chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream. The base cakes were made of 3 layers, so they were huge! The elephant is made from the Wilton 3D small teddy bear cake pan. When cooled, cut the teddy bear's ears off. Then I shaped the trunk and the legs with some extra buttercream. Then I crumbcoated the rest of the elephant and then fondanted. This was difficult but was a nice challenge. I added some details with the different tools from a Wilton tool kit I got when I went to Hobby Lobby one time. As for the train, I made a 9x13 cake and used a 2 inch round cookie cutter and cut out 3 circles of cake. I then put buttercream between the layers and added straws for support. I also cut out a 2.5 x 7 inch strip of cake for the train base. I place the rounds on their side on top of that strip. I then added a small back square piece so that the fonant sides of the cab would have support. I then buttercreamed and fondanted that. I used different tips and other tools to form the wheels, smoke stacks, cab walls and cow tosser. I then let those dry and harden over night and then added them the next day.
